nice box, Anderson. {i call a do-over.}

April 16, 2012 by Sara Garcia Filed Under: i call a do-over., SugarScout Leave a Comment

The east part of sugarSCOUT used to be an Anderson and when we found this box, there was no doubt we had to have it.  After scouting the perfect legs, we busted out the power tools…..done.
This special piece won’t be going in the sugarSHOPPE but if you have a nice box you want repurposed into a table, just give us a shout.

from rejected to ravishing {i call a do-over.}

We took one look at this dismissed, forgotten table & knew she had potential.  After years of auto parts, old newspapers & oil cans were cleared away, there was no doubt about what needed to be done.  Her gorgeous turned legs were strong & sturdy but a LOT dusty.  We left the chippy goodness intact & simply sealed it in with a few coats of clear matte spray.  It’s the top half that required a bit more TLC.
We wish this table could talk….so many stories she could tell.  Her chippy loveliness can be found in our etsy shoppe.

You might remember an {i call a do-over.} piece we featured a bit back with this same eagle adorned vinyl.  That sweet sewing seat quickly found a home so we decided it’s smaller, rounder cousin would be next in the project cue.round rug found via Urban Outfitters

This handsome guy can be found in the sugarSCOUT etsy shoppe.

Chippy, maybe………..Cool, for sure.

This little yellow chippy stool is retro awesome. And she’s useful indeed. Don’t just step on her…..the new foam & fabric are super comfy. We scrubbed up the frame well but left her chippy goodness intact.

It’s good to be back after taking some time to catch up on scouting, photographing and listing.  We have so many amazing scouts to show you….some industrial, some mid-century and lots of complete vintage YUMMI-NESS.  Keep an eye on the sugarSCOUT etsy shoppe, as we’ll be listing new items daily.
Please excuse the quick & dirty scouting photo taken at an estate sale.

We thought we’d give this beauty a nudge in the right direction with a little charcoal grey.  She can be found in our Etsy Shoppe.

a new home & a back breaking project. {i call a do-over.}

March 5, 2012 by Sara Garcia Filed Under: i call a do-over., SugarScout Leave a Comment

This idea has been in the cue ever since it was featured on Apartment Therapy  last spring.  We admire those DIY lovers who take a concept & adapt it to work & function well in their spaces.  Becca from Jared & Becca did just that.  For only $55 & a lot of back pain, she got an amazing bathroom floor.  Well done Becca!

You might remember this recent {i call a do-over.} where we took a little storage sewing chair from scary to smart.  Our client & buyer Deb from itzaChicThing snatched it up & put it to good use in her sewing shoppe where she creates handmade clutch, shoulder & messenger bags.  So glad she sent along a photo of the chair in it’s new home.  Thanks Deb!

Jute Growth Charts {i call a do-over.}

February 27, 2012 by Sara Garcia Filed Under: i call a do-over., SugarScout Leave a Comment

We’re a little behind with the blog today….but wanted to share a quick {i call a do-over.}.  A bit of travel has gotten the way with our sugarSCOUT blogging. Sara’s been 34,000 feet over the Atlantic but is now home safely from her trip to Israel.  From what I’ve heard it wasn’t ALL work…she had a little time to do a bit of scouting and we hope to share her sweet finds later this week. Needless to say, I’m so, so, so glad to have her back!  I was away from home with my sweet fam. too but only made a the short trek across the state of WI where I did a bit of scouting myself. You’ve got to love Northern Wisconsin.  Thanks to my Bonus Mom, we had one fun weekend!

Although we’ve featured a DIY on another growth chart here, we wanted to show our most recent spin on the idea now for sale in the sugarSCOUT etsy shoppe.  Starting with 3.5″ jute webbing and a sharpie….work carefully to measure out and mark 1″ increments. After number are written, add a grommet at the top, your kiddos name and you have it.  A sweet, portable growth chart.  They’re also super cute hung in threes with two additional jute strips on each side.  We can add some photo clips and you have an instant area to display those great snapshots.

a smart & sweet seat. {i call a do-over.}

February 20, 2012 by Sara Garcia Filed Under: i call a do-over., SugarScout 2 Comments

We’re not really sure what to say about this little chair in her original state.  It’s only good if you love plastic eagles….or if you don’t mind sticking to your seat.  We don’t really care for either and knew for a fact this leggy girl needed a new dress.
Now she’s not only cute, but she’s smart too.  Beneath her sweet seat, you’ll find storage for sewing supplies or any other goodies you need to stash.  This and many other great scouts can be found in our etsy shoppe.

vintage eyelet + floral linen = sugaryMAJIK {i call a do-over.}

February 13, 2012 by Sara Garcia Filed Under: i call a do-over., SugarScout Leave a Comment

We have a weakness for great vintage printed linens….combine that with a the found goodness of an eyelet curtain and you’ve got some serious majik.

A little planning, a hidden zipper and two darling pillows are ready for a sweet soft landing.

It’s funny, the longer I live, the more shocked I become that people don’t know “how to” sew on a button, iron on a knee patch, catch a falling hem, or put a few extra stitches in a loose bead?  I guess that goes hand in hand with societies inclination to think that vo-tech is too old skool to be worth the time.  But just like changing a tire, knowing how to unclog a drain, and doing to laundry without a step by step cheat sheet, basic sewing is just one of those things you should teach your kids before they leave home.

Take Pinky here, she doesn’t need a room in your house dedicated to all things stitches and scissors, no m’aam.  She’d be just as happy with a cocktail perched on top next to your sofa, at your bedside, or at the front door to hold keys & loose change.
Then, when you least expect it, she’s ready with seam ripper and thread in hand……..like superman out of a phone booth.  We love it.  A girl whose versatile and ready to transform at any moment.

before:after:

Today, we’re packing up this custom piece for our sweet client Dora.  We’re thrilled this beauty has found a loving home.  Thanks Dora!
