Between the two of us, we have a couple of wonderful boys….Cal age 11 & Jude age 7. The longer we parent these two amazing little guys, we are continually reminded of their similarities. Some of these parallels may come down to birth order with them both being the oldest. However, they’re each hardwired with a serious ability to build, create and cultivate their visions. Like Jude, Cal went through a long time where he would make “stuff” from household goods and found items. Cal has since moved on to bigger projects like fixing lawn mowers and building weapons (we’re keeping a close eye on these developments). He loves to modify dime store cap guns and add power with concoctions like vinegar and baking soda. He takes as much pride in testing & failing at his inventions as he does with the successes. He’s really quite a kid.
When we compare our little men, we see both of them to have huge hearts…soft, sensitive and insightful. They’re both serious thinkers and non traditional learners which presents some challenges at the school desk. Cal & Jude also have language skills that will enable them to make friends at every turn and explain their way out of sticky situations.
Jude was recently given a bag of seashells. Within minutes he had built a “clam family” which he would like to market in the sugarSCOUT shoppe. Creative and an entrepaneur…gotta love it.
Thanks to sugarSCOUT west PaPa Art, Cal had an opportunity to experience a week of engineering last summer Art called “Outboard Motor Camp”. They’re already planning round two for this summer. Cal is a lucky boy to have someone as accomplished, resourceful and brilliant as Art to invest time into his growth.
